MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I have always enjoyed the following story. I think that it shows, in a way, how real Santa really is. Not as an actual person, but as a real symbol that if we look in the right direction, will point us to the Savior. Enjoy!

Teach the children . . .
Late one Christmas Eve, I sank back, tired but content, into my easy chair. The kids were in bed, the gifts were wrapped, the milk and cookies waited by the fireplace for Santa. As I sat back admiring the tree with its decorations, I couldn't help feeling that something important was missing. It wasn't long before the tiny twinkling tree lights lulled me to sleep.
I don't know how long I slept, but all of a sudden I knew that I wasn't alone. I opened my eyes, and you can imagine my surprise when I saw Santa Claus himself standing next to my Christmas tree. He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot just as the poem described him, but he was not the "jolly old elf" of Christmas legend. The man who stood before me looked sad and disappointed, and there were tears in his eyes.
"Santa, what's wrong?" I asked, "Why are you crying?"
"It's the children," Santa replied sadly.
"But Santa, the children love you," I said.
"Oh, I know they love me, and they love the gifts I bring them," Santa said, "but the children of today seem to have somehow missed out on the true spirit of Christmas. It's not their fault. It's just that the adults, many of them not having been taught themselves, have forgotten to teach the children."
"Teach them what?" I asked.
Santa's kind old face became soft, more gentle. His eyes began to shine with something more than tears. He spoke softly. "Teach the children the true meaning of Christmas. Teach them that the part of Christmas we can see, hear, and touch is much more than meets the eye. Teach them the symbolism behind the customs and traditions of Christmas which we now observe. Teach them what it is they truly represent."
Santa reached into his bag and pulled out a tiny Christmas tree and set it on my mantle. "Teach them about the Christmas tree. Green is the second color of Christmas. The stately evergreen, with its unchanging color, represents the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ. Its needles point heavenward as a reminder that mankind's thoughts should turn heavenward as well."
Santa reached into his bag again and pulled out a shiny star and placed it at the top of the small tree. "The star was the heavenly sign of promise. God promised a Savior for the world and the star was the sign of the fulfillment of that promise on the night that Jesus Christ was born. Teach the children that God always fulfills His promises, and that wise men still seek Him."
"Red," said Santa, "is the first color of Christmas." "He pulled forth a red ornament for the tiny tree. Red is deep, intense, vivid. It is the color of the life-giving blood that flows through our veins. It is the symbol of God's greatest gift. Teach the children that Christ gave his life and shed his blood for them that they might have eternal life. When they see the color red, it should remind them of that most wonderful gift."
Santa found a silver bell in his pack and placed it on the tree. "Just as lost sheep are guided to safety by the sound of the bell, it continues to ring today for all to be guided to the fold. Teach the children to follow the true Shepherd, who gave His life for the sheep."
Santa placed a candle on the mantle and lit it. The soft glow from its one tiny flame brightened the room. "The glow of the candle represents how people can show their thanks for the gift of God's son that Christmas Eve long ago. Teach the children to follow in Christ's foot steps...to go about doing good. Teach them to let their light so shine before people that all may see it and glorify God. This is what is symbolized when the twinkle lights shine on the tree like hundreds of bright, shining candles, each of them representing one of God's precious children, their light shining for all to see."
Again Santa reached into his bag and this time he brought forth a tiny red and white striped cane. As he hung it on the tree he spoke softly. "The candy cane is a stick of hard white candy. White to symbolize the virgin birth and sinless nature of Jesus, and hard to symbolize the Solid Rock the foundation of the church, and the firmness of God's promises. The candy cane is in the form of a "J" to represent the precious name of Jesus, who came to earth. It also represents the Good Shepherd's crook, which He uses to reach down into the ditches of the world to lift out the fallen lambs who, like all sheep, have gone astray. The original candy cane had three small red stripes, which are the stripes of the scourging Jesus received by which we are healed, and a large red stripe that represents the shed blood of Jesus, so that we can have the promise of eternal life.
"Teach these things to the children."
Santa brought out a beautiful wreath made of fresh, fragrant greenery tied with a bright red bow. "The bow reminds us of the bond of perfection, which is love. The wreath embodies all the good things about Christmas for those with eyes to see and hearts to understand. It contains the colors of red and green and the heaven-turned needles of the evergreen. The bow tells the story of good will towards all and its color reminds us of Christ's sacrifice. Even its very shape is symbolic, representing eternity and the eternal nature of Christ's love. It is a circle, without beginning and without end. These are the things you must teach the children."
I asked, "But where does that leave you, Santa?"
The tears gone now from his eyes, a smile broke over Santa's face. "Why bless you, my dear," he laughed, "I'm only a symbol myself. I represent the spirit of family fun and the joy of giving and receiving. If the children are taught these other things, there is no danger that I'll ever be forgotten."
"I think I'm beginning to understand."
"That's why I came," said Santa. "You're an adult. If you don't teach the children these things, then who will?"

I still believe.....do you?

Dear Blaine,

December 22nd of last year was a very special day for our family! Daddy and Mommy were able to take you to the temple to have you sealed to us. We were sealed in the Ogden, Utah Temple. When we got to the temple, Nana took you to the children's waiting room and Mommy and Daddy went to do some paperwork and get dressed in our temple clothes. We were then taken to a special waiting room where we waited to go to the Sealing room. While we were waiting, we said a prayer to thank Heavenly Father for blessing us with you and to thank Him for allowing us to go to the temple to have you Sealed to us. Then we went to the Sealing room. All of our family and friends came into the room and we waited for you to come. Nana got you all dressed in your handsome, white outfit and brought you into the Sealing room. You were so alert! You were looking all around the room at your family and friends. I know there were other people there you saw that we couldn't see. Once you were finally Sealed to us, Mommy and Daddy cried because we were so happy. You were FINALLY ours for Forever and nothing could change that!

Family who attended:
Grandma and Grandpa Swenson
Nana and Papa Thompson

Blaine, we love you so much! We can't imagine our family without you. We waited a long time for you to come to us. It was worth the wait! We are so grateful to Heavenly Father for sending you to us and we are grateful to Katie for her sacrifice in placing you with us. We are grateful for the Sealing Power and that we were able to have you sealed to us for Forever! Never forget how much we love you. Thank you for being such a sweet little guy. You bring so much love and happiness to our family. We love you!

Thompson Family Pictures

My whole family was able to get together for my sister Dani's wedding. So, we decided to get some family pictures taken. The last time we had the whole family together for pictures was at my brother Justin's wedding. We now have 2 more spouses and 4 more grandkids. I think we were overdue! There are a lot of pictures, but I couldn't decide what ones to use, they all turned out so well! Hope you like them!

Count your many blessings!

Tyson and I have been a little discouraged lately. We have been worrying a lot about money and jobs and things like that. As I was driving home the other day, I thought of the song Count Your Blessing. One of the lines says "When you are discouraged thinking all is lost... Count your blessings, name them one by one." So, I started thinking about all the blessing Heavenly Father has given us. I decided I would do a post about some of our blessings. So, here are some of the blessings I am grateful for:

* Tyson will be mine for ETERNITY!
* We have the sweetest, cutest, smartest little boy in the whole world!
* Blaine was sealed to us in the Temple.
* We are healthy.
* Baby Eli is growing the way he is supposed to.
* I am able to be pregnant. (When you spend years believing you will never be pregnant, you count that as a HUGE blessing!)
* Our extended families are so good to our little family and help us so much.
* The Savior died so we can repent and live with Him again.
* The Savior TOTALLY understands the trials we go through and He is able to help us through them.
* We live close to our families.
* We are members of Heavenly Father's true church.
* Tyson is worthy of holding the Priesthood.
* We have great friends who are supportive of us.
* We have a living Prophet to guide our church.
* We have a Temple close to our home.
* Tyson has a good job that he enjoys. (Most of the time. Ü)
* I have a good job that works with my schedule so I only have to work one day a week when Tyson is home with Blaine.
* We have a beautiful home.
* Our car is reliable.
* We live in a free country.
* We have money to pay for the things we need. (ie: food, clothes.)
* We are part of a great ward.
* I get to work with the young women in our ward.
* I have a strong testimony.

I know there are so many other blessings that Heavenly Father has given us. I am so grateful to Him for always taking care of our family.

The Melting Pot... YUM!

On Thursday night, we went to the Melting Pot with our friends Katie and Brandon. It was our first time going there and it was so much fun! It is a fondue restaurant. You have four courses. We started out with the appetizer. It was Swiss cheese with bread, veggies and apples to dip in it. Next was a salad. I had a Cobb salad. I'm usually not a huge salad eater, but it was SO GOOD! I ate the whole thing! Next was the main course. We got a platter of assorted pieces of meats and things to cook in oil. The platter had chicken, Fillet Mignon, pork, shrimp, salmon and spinach and artichoke raviolis. It also came with different dips for the meats as well as batters if you wanted to batter them. The chicken, raviolis and pork were my favorite. I made Tyson eat the shrimp and fish. YUCK! Last was the dessert. This was the best part! We got S'more chocolate dip. It was milk chocolate with a marshmallow cream and graham cracker crumbs mixed in. It came with strawberries, brownie bites, rice crispie treats, cheese cake, bananas and marshmallows to dip in the chocolate. Holy cow!! It was fabulous.
If you have about $90 and 3 hours I would totally recommend going! What a cool place. Although I wouldn't recommend taking children. Our waiter was totally bugged that we had Blaine there and then when Blaine dumped the graham cracker crumbs on the table, that pushed him over the edge! Oops! Plus, that's a long time for little kids to sit and eat. Not that Blaine ate that much. (His usual!)
If you don't have that much money and time, go just for dessert. It was fabulous! You will LOVE it!! YUM! Thanks for going to dinner with us Katie and Brandon!! It was so great seeing you! Ü

A small scare with a surprise ending.

For the last month and a half I have been having a pain in my side. We figured it was just my ligaments stretching or something like that. Well, for the last few weeks the pain has been getting worse and then a few days ago the pain started spasming and making it hard for me to breathe. I didn't really care that I was in pain, I was just worried there was something wrong and that it was hurting the baby. So I called the doctor. He wanted me to come in to do an abdominal ultrasound to make sure everything was okay. Tyson couldn't get off work, so my mom took me to the hospital. I was worried that maybe I have been doing the shots wrong and that I had gotten a blood clot. The technician just took pictures of my kidneys and all those organs. He was going to send the pictures to the doctor and then the doctor was going to call us. We haven't heard back yet, but the technician said he couldn't see anything to be too concerned about. No blood clots either. So, hopefully everything is okay. The tech also needed to take pictures of the baby to make sure it was doing okay. As he was looking he asked if we knew what we were having. I told him we weren't going to be able to find out until January. He said "I can tell what it is. Do you want to know?" I was like "Heck yes I want to know!" So... it's a boy! YEAH!! Blaine is going to have a little buddy. We are so stinking excited! I felt bad finding out without Tyson, but I REALLY wanted to know. It was kind of funny because I went to the hospital scared out of my mind and left thrilled because we are having a boy. YEAH!!

It's Been A While!

Sorry we haven't posted in a couple of weeks. Things are going well. Blaine got his 1st haircut of Halloween! He did alright. We couldn't get him to hold still so I had to hold him the whole time. Thanks Sarah! You did a great job. Here are some pictures!

Getting ready for his haircut.

Surprise!! Ü

About 4 1/2 weeks ago I woke Tyson up at 3:30 in the morning with some SHOCKING news. For the past week I had been feeling kind of WEIRD. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. One of the weird things was that I was STARVING all of the time. Well, I woke up at 3:30 a.m. on September 25th. I had to go to the bathroom SO BAD! I happened to have a pregnancy test under the sink from who knows how long ago! I thought "I'm just going to take this test so I can cross that off the list of what might be wrong with me." It's not supposed to be possible for us to get pregnant. We are BOTH broken. Well, to my surprise, the test was POSITIVE! HOLY COW!! I started laughing and crying all at the same time. I went into our bedroom and said "Tyson I'm PREGNANT!" He was pretty confused at first, but then he realized what I was saying. He started laughing too!
I called the doctors office the day after we found out. They wanted to see me that day. So, we drove up to Logan. (Yes, my doctor is in Logan. He is AMAZING! We just love him so much. He helped us with all our infertility stuff. He is just so great we couldn't change doctors.) I have this thing called Leiden Factor V. It is basically that during pregnancy I would get blood clots so the baby wouldn't get enough blood and it would die. They did an ultrasound to find a heartbeat so they could start me on heparin shots. I give myself a heparin shot twice a day. It was REALLY hard at first. I am TERRIFIED of needles. The first time I did it, I was HYSTERICAL! I had to have Tyson give me a blessing. In the BLESSING he said that Heavenly Father knew how hard this was for me and that He would help me. He really has helped me! It still hurts and it still bruises my stomach, but I'm not afraid of doing it anymore. I just shoot up and deal with it. Ü Something kind of funny, for you TWILIGHT fans. When my friend, Jessica, saw my bruised stomach she said "Oh, Jenny's having a vampire!" Ü
We had another doctors appointment yesterday. It went well. The BABY is doing great! We are 10 WEEKS along. Our due date is May 20, 2009. It's still a little while away, but that's a good thing. Blaine doesn't like it when Mommy holds other babies. So, we are trying to get him used to that. The baby is due about 3 weeks before Blaine turns 2. If you have any ADVICE about getting Blaine ready for his brother or sister PLEASE let us know! Ü

Sweet Dance Moves!

Blaine loves to dance! It doesn't matter what the song is, he is rocking out! When we are driving in the car with the radio on, we will look back at him and see him dancing in his car seat. It's adorable! Sometimes he gets his fingers waving around like he is conducting the music. What a funny guy!
(I promise he usually wears shirts! He had just finished a chocolate chip cookie and gotten it all over his shirt. Ü)

The face of a genius?

I know what you are thinking. That doesn't look like the face of genius. But, it is! I know everyone thinks their child is smart, but ours really is! Ü
He is 15 months old and he has about a 25 word vocabulary. He is always asking "What's that?" Then when we tell him what something is, he usually tries to say it. He can say the normal words like mama, dada, baby and no, but he also says words like sprinkler and pretty.
Well, last week he decided to move on to sentences. He started saying "Hi dada!" or "Hi kitty." Then, one night we were sitting in the family room playing. He got up, walked to the stairs, started climbing and said "I'll be back!" We laughed so hard!
He really is a smart little guy!! Ü

Our Trip To Cherry Hill

Today we went to Cherry Hill with our friends Steve and Katie and their three kids. It was so much fun. Tyson and I have been wanting to take Blaine to Cherry Hill all summer. It was a very nice day; not too hot at all. And it wasn't too crowded either. Blaine really liked it. I think next year we are going to get season passes. Thanks for coming with us Robisons! We had so much fun!

Girls Camp, a new niece and 6 great years. (Caution, it gets a little mushy at the end! Ü)

In July, Blaine and I went to our Stake Girls Camp. We both have a bit of separation anxiety, so I just had to bring him with me. I was a little nervous because it was 4 days and I wasn't sure how well Blaine would do. I had nothing to worry about! Blaine was an angel the whole time! He took naps like normal, slept his normal 12 hours at night and was so good. I kept having people say that they were amazed at how good he was; they hadn't heard him cry even once the whole time. I'm sure it helped that there were TONS of girls there paying attention to Blaine and wanting to play with him. The young women in my ward were wonderful! They helped me so much! I am so grateful for them being so willing to help me take care of Blaine.

This is Blaine with two of our mia maids. Blaine had them wrapped around his little finger! They adored him!
Blaine in our tent... eating a handout.
Blaine playing on the ground with one of my beehives. (Blaine was SO dirty the whole time. I had to keep reminding myself that it was okay because we were camping. Ü)

On July 31st, my twin brother, Justin, and his wife, Emily, had a baby girl! Her name is Emma Bailey. She is beautiful! She has such pretty dark hair. I think she has Justin's eyes and Emily's mouth. She was a tiny little thing. She weighed 5 lbs. 14 oz. We are so happy to have baby Emma in our family.

This picture was taken with a phone, but I think it is still so cute!

Yesterday, August 8th, was Tyson and my 6th Anniversary! I can't believe how quickly those years have flown by. I am so grateful that I get to have Tyson as my sweetheart for Eternity. He is such a blessing and strength to me. I am grateful that he puts up with me. He always puts me before himself and wants to make sure I am happy. (His motto is "Happy wife, happy life! Ü) I want to tell Tyson that I feel like the luckiest girl for having him as my husband. I love you Tys! Ü

Spending More Time With the Family

As of late I have felt like I have been working a ton and feeling kind of bad about not being home as much as I would like to. I spend 4 hours a day in commuting to and from Salt Lake on the train and a bus. Then I try to get 8.5 to 9 hours in a work all while taking a two hour lunch to go to the gym to get in better shape. I wake up at 5 to catch the 6am train and I have been getting home at around 8:30pm. It sucks! Anyways, I was really feeling bad and really wanted to spend more time with the family. Especially Blaine. So this past Wednesday I got to spend the extra time with my son...in the emergency room. Blaine, the poor kid, fell backwards off a chair at the church and hit his head. He threw up a couple of times and we decided to take him the emergency room just to make sure all was ok (we all remember what happened when I had my concussion, don't we?). Well, everything turned out ok and Blaine was fine. It took less time to see the ER doc than to go to the regular one. However, it did cost 5 times as much. The doctor literally took 5 minutes with us and was able to tell right away that Blaine was ok. So, Blaine is fine and I got some good quality time in the ER with Blaine and Jenny. And, lucky for me, my office is going to 4 days a week so I will have an extra day to play with the fam.

Take me out to the ball game!

Last month we went to a Bees baseball game with our friends Brandon and Katie. It was a lot of fun. I haven't been to a baseball game in years. I really don't know a ton about baseball and neither does Katie. So we spent most of the time talking, but we got some cute pictures. That's the important part right! Ü

Happy 4th of July!

We hope you had a fun 4th of July. We had a lot of fun! We went to Tyson's parents house to swim in their pool and have a BBQ. It was Blaine's first time in a pool. He didn't really like the "Big Kid" pool, but he had fun in the little pool. Here are a few of the pictures we took. There is also a video of Tyson. You will like it! After the BBQ, we went to Layton park to be with my family. The plan was to watch the fireworks, but Blaine didn't make it that long. He got really tired and grumpy so we ended up going back to my parents house. Blaine went to bed and we stayed up and played Loaded Questions (Super fun game! You should try it!) with my parents and Danielle and her friend Spencer.
